Homemade canned pizza sauce is a versatile and flavorful sauce made from fresh tomatoes, herbs, and spices. It offers the convenience of being preserved for future use while maintaining the rich taste of homemade ingredients. It can be customized to suit individual preferences and provides a delicious base for homemade pizzas, pasta dishes, and more.

Ingredients

  • 28 oz of diced tomatoes, (can tomatoes can be used)
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (8 fresh cloves minced)
  • 1 tablespoon fried oregano (2 1/4 tablespoon fresh)
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil (2 chopped fresh leaves)
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar (or more to taste)

Instructions

  1. In a medium sized sauce pan over medium heat add all ingredients and mix well.
  2. Reduce heat and allow to simmer for 20 mins.
  3. Taste and adjust spices, sugar and salt if needed.
  4. It is ready to use or can if you like. It can also be kept in the fridge for up to a week or frozen.
  5. To can the sauce for later use:
  6. Add your hot pizza sauce to hot sterilized jars, leaving 1/2 inch at top of jar. Remove any air bubbles and wipe the rim of each jar with vinegar on a cloth and place your seal and add the ring only to finger tight. Place your hot jars into your hot water bath and bring your water to a boil and allow to boil for 35 mins for 250 ml jars. Make sure each jar is covered by one inch of water. After the time is up turn off the heat and allow to sit for 5 minutes and then remove the jars from water, do not tilt the jars and allow them to sit on the counter undisturbed for 24 hours.
  7. After 24 hours check that each jar has sealed, remove the rings and wipe down each jar, label and place in your storage for later use. Use within one year.
